An Atomic Monkey Swings Into The Room

I'm flattered beyond my ability to describe that Keln invited me to co-blog here at Nuking Politics. How could I possibly say no?  As many of you are already aware, I hail from the somewhat-newly-created yet already-sorely-neglected Atomic Monkey Action Squad (AMAS) blog, and in fact Keln is doing me a great favor by providing me with an outlet that I don't have to run, or for which I'm the sole source of content.

You have no idea what a relief that actually is. Of course I'll contribute! Atomic Monkeys certainly know how to nuke!

Now, since this is not AMAS, and since I never got around to it over there, let me briefly explain my motive for choosing such a silly name for my own blog, and then that will be out of the way and done.  I selected that name because it was ridiculous and I wanted to be known for more than just "outrage wrapped in eloquence", although I’m not complaining because frankly that’s what got me noticed in the first place.

On the other hand, to egotists like myself, who accept positive comments as hard currency, I gotta say that carefully worded rants certainly pay well!

But please don’t think too highly of my supposed “eloquence”. It’s just a façade, and I mean that. This is not some Dogbertian “false humility” ruse engendered to garner praise.  Remember back at the start of high school, there was this kid who would always use words like “gregarious”, “proselytizing” and “existentialistic” in casual conversations at parties, despite not being able to spell any of them, and who in fact was failing Freshman English? Yeah, that was me. A long, long, LONG time ago.  I eventually discovered girls, grew up, and now have my own family where - and this must still astonish some people who know me well - I get to be the "Dad". But deep inside me there yet resides that perpetual adolescent who’d prefer to use “manifestly apparent” when “obvious” would obviously suffice, clamoring for attention. You can tell, right?

I am sincerely looking forward to contributing to this blog, and have a couple of posts already prepped and ready to go.  Now I’m aware that “eloquence is the refuge for those who have nothing to say”, so I pledge that I’ll guard against being needlessly, excessively, and flamboyantly wordy, simply to hide my own insecurities or to “show off”, when posting here.

Oops…
