A Scripture

Tonight, my family and I are just sitting down to Family Home Evening. Each week, on Monday night, we gather as a family and have songs, prayers and a lesson together. Oh, and obviously, cookies. We take turns with the different responsibilities, and tonight was mine to choose our scripture to "ponderize". We decide upon a scripture each week to print and put in our bathroom. We read it over and over and try to become familiar with it and even memorize it.  Since I get the chance to choose the ponderize scripture fairly often, when I do my daily reading, I keep a record of scriptures that strike a chord with me so that I can quickly choose a really good one.

This was the one I chose for tonight:

Love how she highlighted Ether 2:12 - great idea!:

Hate the Candidates? Vote for the Constitution

It's no secret how I feel about the names I will see when I enter the voting booth tomorrow.
But right now, today, I am benefitting from the freedoms and rights that as an American, I am afforded. Because of these advantages, I have the privilege and responsibility to vote.
So what can I do?
I will vote for the Constitution.

Lady America's On the Rebound

I hear America's pretty done with her current "leader." I understand that feeling. Sometimes a partnership just doesn't work out, and splitting up is the only option. Yeah. I hear you. sister.

You and I have a lot in common.

The whole idea of being with someone else is frightening. We have been damaged. We have been misunderstood and mistreated. We long for a leader that can make us whole...make us great again.

When I considered the idea of choosing a new partner, I was wary. I wasn't sure I knew what I wanted. I knew what I didn't want, though. I was certain I didn't want what I had had.

Things I knew I didn't want:

Immaturity

Lack of Intelligence

Brash unkindness

Selfishness

Of all of the qualities I wanted to avoid, SELFISHNESS was the worst. Someone who is selfish canoot be trusted. He will seek his own interest in spite of the longterm consequences or who it may hurt. I knew for sure I didn't want that AGAIN.

And yet, for some reason I can't comprehend, my beloved country is dating THIS MAN:

This Land is My Land

"Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him whom he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever."

I hope you are all enjoying your Easter break in this beautiful, incomparable, blessed land.

Nuke the Punchline - We're Gonna Need Bigger Guns

Despite the hectic schedule necessitated by his "medium distance relationship", Harvey at IMAO is *still* writing awesome straight lines. MY HERO! He'll post another amazing one today. In the mean time, the increasingly capricious Anonymiss has decided to shock everybody by actually judging one.

It's Christmas Eve. Need a Pick-Me-Up?

One of my LEAST favorite things about the Christmas season is that everything is TIRED. The songs on the radio are TIRED and so are the sugary sweet Christmas stories. Not to mention, ME. I'm incredibly tired. :)

Everything seems to feel a bit, well... overused.  I also dislike the way retailers try to counteract this *I've seen this a million times before* feeling by introducing ridiculously absurd "new" things. Like this:

Careful.
You made need ear bleach. (Is that a thing?)

We've become so TIRED we have we have started celebrating the BAD.

I saw a rack of these at Target. Now you don't even have to make that extra trip to the second hand store to observe this special time of the year by being ...well....as ugly as you can.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a cynic. I adore Christmastime. I am currently listening to Christmas music and will be for as long as those around me will let me get away with it. :)

But yesterday I came across something that struck me. Something that was, astonishingly, NOT tired, and not contrived either.

I heard something NEW. Not in all the years of celebrating Christmas with my whole heart: listening to sermons and Christmas stories and movies and songs...

...have I ever heard this one.

So if you're feeling a little tired...let me share this peaceful insight:

I Want a Man Like Picard

He is calm. Kind.
He is compassionate.
He is courageous and protective.
He seeks counsel from those he trusts.
He is a skilled communicator.
He is principled and passionate.
He is an excellent leader.

This is exactly how I feel today.

Today Is Anonymiss’s Birthday. What Should She Do to Celebrate?

Cookies to c64wood for the Picture :)

You gave me so many wonderful suggestions. :) How 'bout I tell you what I did?

I took rodney dill's suggestion to take enjoyment from the mental calisthenics of judging a good Straight Line of the Day from IMAO.

You guys are so funny and clever. I LOVE words. And so, jw, I did HALF of mental health day. I'd have to *be* MENTAL to eat walnuts :)

I was a little under the weather in the morning, so I listened to advice from walruskkkch, Burt, Bob in Feenicks, CrabbyOldBat and tinman: I kicked back and basked in your love. :)

It helped. :)

I was uplifted by the song from rodney dill (which really hit the spot...)

and cheered by the one from Les (which was fun, because it's the same Happy Birthday song I sing with the kids I teach in church!)

I had a very important meeting in the afternoon. One that I have been stressed about for months. Thanks to Iowa Jim, I NUKED THE MOON!! Truly, I don't know how it could have gone better. :D

Shockingly, there were no cookies. But James, c64wood, Burt, Dohtimes, Nucking Futs, walruskkkch, and FredKey, I will definitely make up for that today. :)

tinman suggested Harvey make them.

I heartily agree. :D

And just for HokieGomer and CCO, I'll make brownies and snow cream to go with them. (When Mother Nature sends us snow. But I'm in no hurry :) )

Then, since Da**Cat wants to keep me healthy, I'll eat a tuna fish sandwich. :P I *did* do my Zumba. I'm not a complete slug :)

And my talented friend 4of7 offered to draw me a beautiful snowflake. A girl couldn't possibly feel more spoiled and happy.

Finally, Bob B said I could do whatever I want!!

So I grabbed some of my favorite people and we saw Big Hero 6.
It was endearing and fun and nerdy and made me laugh out loud.

It was an absolutely wonderful birthday.

Thanks to you.

Cookies to My Sweet IMAO Guys!
Since you were all so wonderful to me yesterday, I decided to grant Jimmy's request and post a picture of myself:
