Never Let A Crisis Go To Waste: Part Eleventy Hundred

So, while the whole nation is dealing with the shock of seeing a mentally ill veteran go off the rails and commit the first mass shooting of 2017, what are some people on the left doing? Politicizing it, of course.

Ism and the American Left

You know, I think that could say "tater salad" instead of "socialism" and still be scary...

The American left is a funny thing. Really hard to pin down. That has been kind of the point of my writing these little editorials; an attempt at explaining the left. I know these pieces aren't really funny, but the subject isn't funny either. The core left in America is a very small group, but they have a large and dangerous influence with the goal, it seems, of destroying the very bedrock of this nation: individual freedom. So it's easy to make fun of them, but understanding them is quite another story; a sordid tale that has little room for humor. I'll attempt here to do my best in what is probably my final piece on this subject, but something tells me I will still fall a bit short of explaining the unexplainable.

Understanding the Left: Success

I felt that another Understanding the Left was called for after my last post about the left hating Israel, because there really needs to be some clarification about how the left feels about success. Or specifically why they hate it.

I bet you think this one will be easy compared to the last one, but I think this was the most difficult "Understanding the Left" piece I have written. Because it really took cracking the Israel thing for me to have a better understanding of why the left hates success so much.

Understanding the Left: Why They Hate Israel

It's been a while since I've written something trying to explain the left. It's admittedly a tough thing to do, trying to reason out why such irrational people think the way they do. I've probably said it before, that such thinking is based on emotions and not reason, but I think trying to explain their irrational hatred for Israel might capture the essence of this. Or, at least, I hope so.

You've probably seen it before: you're reading some blog or other on the interwebs, and there is a discussion of Israel. You start reading the comments, which probably start out kind of normal, when all of a sudden the resident lefty commentators begin filling the page with stuff about "Zionists this" and "Zionists that", and how Israel is like this country full of evil people who like to eat babies and make YouTube videos of themselves ripping that "Do Not Remove" tag off of mattresses and couches (which causes riots in the Islamic world, as it offends Mohammed).

Understanding the Left: The Government the Left Wants

One thing about the left that really boggles the mind is how open they are to a bloated, oppressive government. Most on the left believe that such a controlling government is the only way to force society to be what they think it ought to be, and that part is pretty well understood by most I guess. But the part that is confusing is that, such a government not only tramples all over the rights of everyone to the right, but also of the left themselves. If you're not a big wig in that kind of government, then you don't get to enjoy the relative immunity from such personal intrusion. In other words, people on the left are actually willing to give up their own freedom for some reason.

Is it because they actually believe that such a government will always be compassionate or benevolent to the needs of the people and would never really endanger anyone's freedom to express themselves? No, I doubt that is the reason; there are too many examples of how that simply isn't the case. When a government is able to regulate people's lives unchecked, it gets out of hand rather quickly, and there is no compassion whatsoever to be found. Take these recent examples for instance:

A town in Connecticut is threatening to take away a little girl's pet bunny. Seriously. Not because the bunny is going around biting people or killing the neighbor's gardens...just because they don't think the family's property is being kept up well enough. So, to force the family to make their property more pristine, they are evoking some obscure regulation that requires a property to be 2 acres to keep "livestock". The bunny is a pet, not a farm animal, and they neither breed nor sell other bunnies. So anyone with a brain would understand that the animal is just a pet.

But not a bureaucratic regulation-happy government. They want the family to make some home repairs...not that some peeling paint or a sloppy shed really hurts anyone, but the government wants it to be done, for the family's "own good" I suppose. So they suspend any modicum of compassion or humanity and threaten to take away a little girl's pet bunny. It makes you wonder who actually makes a decision like that. "Well, if that family will not paint their house to our standards, we will punish their little girl. That will show them not to mess with government!". It actually is a bit sickening to think about. And it makes you wonder if bureaucrats actually have souls.

But that's not all! There's more! You might have heard about this one: A man in Oregon has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $1500 fine for collecting rain water for use around the house...on his own property. Apparently, there is some obscure 100 year old regulation that prohibits "illegal reservoirs" on personal property.

You have to go through a few steps on that one. First, someone had to think of a reason why people shouldn't collect rain water for personal use in one of the wettest states in the country. Then, a hundred years later, someone had to interpret buckets in a guy's yard as "illegal reservoirs". Then, someone, with a straight face, had to actually charge the guy with a crime. Then, an actual judge had to not only allow such a charge in their courtroom, but also persecute it to the fullest extent of the law. Compassion? Nope. Considering the situation? Nope. Having no soul? Check.

So, we could say to the left: "there's your compassionate nanny state government in action, you idiots!". And they would probably try to defend this silliness using leaps of logic not even Superman could match. And they would do so, fully knowing that such bureaucratic foolishness is indefensible. So, why does the left want that kind of government? Simple...it is a question of responsibility.

What one thing does just about everything the left believes about the individual have in common? Exactly. That the individual should not be responsible for his or her behavior. That to prevent pregnancy, the government should provide contraception, and when that doesn't work, abortion. Not that the individual should not engage in a sexual lifestyle that causes unwanted pregnancies.

Or to keep people fed, clothed, and housed, the government should provide all of that, not that the individual should work hard for it. Or that the government should provide for an education as far as someone wants to go, whether they work for it or not. Or that criminals are "victims" too. Or that guns are evil. It isn't the person that kills someone, it's the gun!

No matter what, leftists don't want to acknowledge any kind of personal responsibility. It is far easier to have an overbearing government simply tell you how to live your life, and when things don't go your way, you automatically have that same government to blame for it...not yourself. Because the last thing a leftist would ever want to bear is personal blame for their own problems. Better a government full of "smart" people to tell you what to eat, drink, wear, and even what to think, than to take personal responsibility. That is why the left is so willing to have a nanny state. The simplest way to avoid all of that personal responsibility is to simply remove the roots of it:

Individual liberty and freedom.

Understanding the Left: Green Energy

It's made of people!

In an effort to truly understand the left, one must begin by understanding their causes. For example, why they like gun control, or why do they label people as this or that minority or majority, or why do they hate America, themselves, Jews, Christians, but actually like Michael Moore? Those are some pretty hefty issues, but I'd like to discuss another one: green energy and climate change.

Many have wondered why the left makes such a big deal about "climate change". And they've been doing it for many years now, presenting it as an immediate crises with nothing but the end of the very planet at stake if we fail to act by their terms. First it was an impending ice age in the late 70s and early 80s. Call it "man-made global cooling". Then there was the deforestation which would cause all of Earth's oxygen to be depleted in short order in the late 80s. Call it "man-made global asphyxiation". Then, in the early 90s, we had acid rain. Call it "man-made melting your face off on rainy days".

When an "ice age" never came, since we've already been in one since the dawn of humanity (we are in an interglacial period of an ice age and have been since prehistory), and deforestation failed to suffocate us all (due to pesky phytoplankton generating about 90% of oxygen on Earth), and the rain failed to become acidic enough to melt faces, the left had to try harder.

Enter global warming! Or, as it was known to the left, Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW). Somehow, the left was able to seduce Science! to get on board with this one simply by pointing out that Carbon Dioxide levels have steadily risen with the growth of industry, and temperatures in the latter half of the 20th century also rose. No actual physical connection was ever made between CO2 and global warming, but it looked good on a graph, if tweaked enough. The left found their cause!

Except, after some rather brutally cold winters, and ocean levels not rising quite as quickly as the left would like, the term global warming had to be modified to Global Climate Change. Now the left had it. Climate change...what an ambiguous term. Everyone knows from elementary school that the climate changes. So it is true; there is climate change. Nobody can deny it. Even when NASA noted that our Sun has entered one of its most active periods on record, Science! and the left continue to ignore that as a reason for our recently hot summer...because climate change. The Science! model works like this:

1. It's hot this summer.
2. ??????????
3. Climate Change!

1. It is really cold this winter.
2. ??????????
3. Climate Change!

1. Ocean levels dropping/rising/staying the same.
2. ??????????
3. Climate Change!

So no matter what, it's due to climate change, and the left doesn't have to make any connection whatsoever to how recent trends are caused by anything man-made. It is perfect! Why is it perfect? Well, that my friends can be seen in the question of green energy. Green energy is the left's "solution" to climate change. And, by default, what constitutes "green energy" is as ambiguous as what constitutes "climate change".

Green energy was once defined as energy that is produced without producing carbon dioxide, or other pollutants. Under this definition, solar and wind are green forms of energy, but so is nuclear. Except, the left hates nuclear energy, even if it doesn't pollute the air as does coal and even natural gas.

Nuclear Power plants emit a deadly gas known as "water vapor"

How can this be? Wouldn't nuclear power, even with its waste production, be better than coal or gas? It emits no CO2, which is what the left says is the source of the climate change problem. Well, yes. And that is why the left despises nuclear energy...because it is a solution to their proposed problem. They don't want a solution, they just want a perpetual problem.

Solar and wind are safe, because they aren't viable. Without government dollars, solar and wind energy cannot survive in a capitalist market. They just don't produce enough power for cost, and they aren't very reliable. But if they depend on government to keep operating, then they solve the real problem the left has: maintaining their power over people's lives.

Climate change is an invented problem, and green energy is an invented solution. The only way to make an invented problem perpetual, as the left is wont to do, is to never actually solve it. That is why they constantly offer solutions that they well know will not work. They want to present a situation where all solutions fail, so as to give them the opportunity to keep "solving" the problem with public consent by instituting more and more regulation of industry, thus controlling it.

The left cares not about pollution or environmental hazards. They care only about gaining enough control to implement their stupid ideas. Politicians on the left go along with it, because they simply want to stay in power. It is a symbiosis of the desire of power and ideology that drives these people to present such global problems and present such dire solutions.

What if I told you, that in fact, there isn't a problem at all? That's the real trick. The left convinces everyone that there is a problem, and when the right can't offer a solution to it (because there is no solution to non-existent problem), the left seems wise to the masses when it presents just about anything as a solution. This is known as a fallacious paradox. And it is from that, which the left operates.

So now you know...and knowing is half the battle.
