Tom Cruise, Flames, The Difference

So Tom Cruise actually believes that the stress involved in making movies can be compared to military combat. He recently made the following statement:

Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, "That's what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal."

 He apparently not only makes a living in the land of make believe, he also lives there.

 Last night an old friend of mine died. His name isn't important here. Everybody who knew him called him "Flames".

Flames was a decorated combat veteran who learned about reality in Vietnam, when he was young. He never made a movie in his life, and for anybody to try to equate the stress of making millions of dollars in the movie business with what Flames went through is simply contemptible.

 Tom Cruise never earned the right to even look Flames in the eye, much less try to pass himself off as his equal.

 Flames was a better man than you, Mr. Cruise. He was a better man even than any of those fake characters you play in your movies. Unlike you, Flames took care of the people in his life in person. He never "phoned it in". He never tried to pass himself off as something he wasn't, because he didn't need to. The difference between you and Flames was this, Mr. Cruise: Flames was real.
