The Power of Punk

It's no secret that I am an aficionado of punk rock. I like everything from the classics like the Misfits, Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys, to some of the more recent stuff like the Offspring, Rancid and the AFI. I like the hardcore stuff like the F.U.s, the Casualties and Verbal Abuse.

I've been in my share of mosh pits, dressed in black, looking all like I'm gonna die or something. I sat next to a guy in tenth grade math who pierced one of his ears ten times. In study hall.

But I have never seen, even for the most popular bands, like Green Day, people marching in the streets demanding a concert, like happened last week.

I mean, like I said, I love punk rock but I've barely even HEARD of Millions of Dead Cops (MDC) before, and here they've got fans so rabid that they will protest f they do get  show.

Amazing,

There is no Hall of Fame devoted to punk rock, although that would be awesome.

On the other hand, they would probably have to call it the Punk Rock Hall of Obscurity.

But it would still be awesome.

  1. The only punk group I still listen to on occasion is MxPx.

And I never considered Greenday or The Offspring real punk. More like pop punk.

  2. The Dead Milkmen just put out a new CD. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, though.

I like Rancid a lot. They kind of sound to me like what the Clash would have sounded like twenty years later.

Punk is my guiltiest of guilty pleasures.
