I'm raising a pirate...

Last week I stopped my two-and-a-half year old daughter from shoplifting a book at an estate sale.  She had stuffed it into her shirt.

This past Saturday, when it was time for her nap, I told her to run to her room to fetch her bottle.

"Aye, aye, Captain!" she yelled, catching me completely by surprise, then scampered from the room.

The way things are going in this world, this might be a survival trait.  She's definitely a hard-charging Alpha.

Hmmmm.....

You've been warned...

  1. Stealing a book?

I mean...if today's youth have to steal something, why not a book?

Not that I would have let her steal it either, but at least buy her a book or something.

  2. Actually, we quickly bought her THAT book. And fear not (or, alternately, fear greatly), this child has preferred books to all other toys since she was a very little infant.

She's not a quiet, bookish child however... No, she's a loud, firework-filled, bang-and-bounce-off-the-walls, bookish child.

Tonight we discussed the differences between airplanes and helicopters (she asked), which frankly was something I would have much rather been doing than watching the debate.

    Go Romney!

Of course, if there's any country left when my girls grow up, they'll probably just want to conquer it. My oldest is a budding (and quickly advancing) martial artist.

As I said, you've been warned.

    1. I remember when my oldest son, 11 now, but about 5 or 6 at the time asked me how submarines worked (since I was on one). So I explained it to him, probably in a way that was too technical and not expecting him to understand a word I said.

Weeks later, he surprised me when he explained it so well to another kid. He actually understood it.

Unfortunately, he still doesn't understand the concept of the "clean room".
