multiple universes exist, and somewhere in one of the multiple universes you
are rich, and poor in another, and have 3 wives in another, and no wives in
another, and invented guns in another, and invented HIV in yet another.

ReplyDeleteI think that this theory doesn't make the cut of Ockham's Razor. Although, I sometimes wonder if the dark matter that we can't see or detect directly could be the gravitational effects of mass in neighboring universes bleeding through the branes, I suspect that infinite universes would create infinite bleedthrough, making a background too high to be measured,

Dark matter is sort of a fudge factor, but that is kind of the point. It's called "dark matter" because nobody knows what it is. It could be a multitude of things, or just a type of matter we don't understand. The reason why there is undoubtedly something to dark mater existing is that we can't see the stuff, but we can see it tugging on stuff. We can see its effects. It could simply be ordinary matter in a state we don't yet understand or something new entirely.
DeleteIn fact, for a nice circular discussion, dark matter and dark energy are very much like the spiritual explanation for God. No, we can't actually see Him...but we can see His work. We can see Him tugging on life and existence here and there. So those affects can't simply be discounted right out.
And multiple universe hypothesis (don't let anyone tell you it is a "theory"...it isn't testable) is another example of how people might come up with something to explain what they cannot otherwise explain. The question posed by such a hypothesis is why are so many atheists quick to accept such untestable ideas, yet declaim the existence of God...also untestable in a scientific sense.
A true scientist who does not believe in God is someone who simply doesn't believe in God...and leaves it at that (Agnostic is the popular term for that). When you cross into the territory of "There is no God", then you are basing that on faith alone, not testable scientific data. There is nothing wrong with that at all, because we all choose to believe certain things. But to call everyone else dumb because they do not believe as you do (atheists and religious people alike) is the absolute height of arrogance and foolishness.

DeleteThose liberals get kinda angry if you try and tell them you believe in God. The one I chatted with told me I'm just supposed to assume all people will disagree with me, and nobody wants to hear what I think. Or something like that.

DeleteWell of course they get angry. Moral values in most religions don't support their view that a person can do any old thing they want and live any type of lifestyle and there should be no consequences. So most religious belief systems make them really uncomfortable. And if there really is a God, that would validate the idea that there is such a thing as morals and consequences. It's better to just ignore all of that.
